Abstract

Crossed beam studies of K -D2O collisions have been carried out for laboratory K beam energies from 10 to 200 eV. The only ionic products observed were K+ and OD-. The reaction Q thresholds obtained from the measured K+ energy distributions show that the K+ ion onset corresponds to the D (2S) + OD- (1Σ) limit of D2O- at 3.28 eV. Q here is defined as the excess of product over reactant kinetic energies. This result suggests that any minimum in the 2A1 state of D2O- (on the D- OD-coordinate axis) may be shallow ≲0.1 eV in depth.
