Abstract

In the present investigation, the characteristics of ion-acoustic solitons in a plasma consisting of inertial ions, hot electrons obeying Vasyliunas–Cairns (VC) distribution and embedded with an electron beam have been studied. Using reductive perturbation technique, the KP equation and its solution have been derived. The negative potential ion-acoustic solitons are observed in the presence of an electron beam. The combined effects of various plasma parameters, such as electron beam density, beam velocity, superthermality and nonthermality parameters of electrons have been analysed on the characteristics of ion-acoustic solitons.
