Abstract

Direct current (DC) microgrids are expected to be increasingly used in the future because of its control simplicity compared to alternating current (AC) counterparts and the ease of conversion between AC and DC forms. There has been extensive research in control and management systems for DC microgrids to have efficient and reliable grids. This work proposes an enhancement to the existing hierarchical control and management framework by integrating a degradation forecasting (DF) layer into it. The additional layer collaborates with the energy management (EM) layer to reach a solution that is a compromise between economic benefits and reliability. The effectiveness of the proposed framework is examined by a notional DC microgrid.
