Abstract
A state of the art infrared (IR) camera was employed to monitor temperature changes of the ULTIMET cobalt alloy during high cycle fatigue tests. Temperature distribution maps of the specimen as a function of time have been obtained using the snap shot and the sequence modes of the IR camera. The temperature changes during high cycle fatigue tests and infrared imaging of fatigue cracks as a heat source before the final failure are reported.
