Abstract
The temperature evolution of HR-120 alloy during low-cycle fatigue tests was monitored by using IR imaging technique. The temperature maps during several stages of the fatigue process were presented. The temperature oscillations of first five cycles of HR-120 were compared with the total strain as a function of time and with the stress as a function of time. The nonuniform plastic deformation under initial load was revealed by temperature distribution at the first few cycles. It was found that the equilibrium temperature, which depended on the total strain range, could be used to predict the fatigue life of the materials.
