Abstract

This paper discusses possible approaches to achieving high levels of PV hosting on the grid, a key requirement for sustainability. There are significant challenges to grid integration of renewable resources, both at the transmission and distribution level. Of particular concern are issues related to dynamic balancing and voltage management without using inordinate amounts of expensive energy storage. For countries such as India, that are seeking to get 150 GW of solar energy on the system over the next decade or two, this is a huge challenge that needs to be addressed. This paper provides some approaches for achieving high levels of renewable energy hosting, particularly solar hosting.
