Abstract

Thermally responsive vesicle system decorated with gold nanoparticles have been prepared from the self-assembly of a thermally responsive poly[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate-block-(N-isopropylacrylamide)] (PDMAEMA-b-PNIPAM) block copolymer. Simply mixing the vesicle solution with a solution of NaAuCl 4 without any external reducing agent leads to the formation of gold nanoparticle decorated vesicles. The conversion of complexed AuCl 4 to zero-valent gold nanoparticles was conformed by the observation of surface plasmon resonance. Reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization was used for the synthesis of the diblock copolymer composed of pH-responsive DMAEMA and the thermally responsive NIPAM segments. DLS, NMR spectra, and TEM were used in the course of various steps of the reaction.
