Abstract
Experts associated with biofuel production in the US state that plant-based fuels developed in effective economic and environmental ways can contribute to the country's and the world's energy security significantly. The Biomass Research and Development Initiative (BRDI) states that growing biofuel crops efficiently in the country will require changes in the intensity of use of about 5% of pasture lands to more intensive hay, forage, and bioenergy crops to meet potential targets for biofuels. The potential to increase biofuel yields in developing countries also offers significant opportunities to improve welfare, expand production, and ensure better global energy security. Experts suggest that perennial cellulosic biofuel crops can offer an alternative source of energy security that diversifies and increases rural incomes under an appropriate policy framework.
