Abstract

An automatic fixture for polishing a single crystal on a mechanical polishing machine has been designed and tested on a soft metal, aluminum. Crystal radii of the order of 3 m may be achieved without personal attention to the polishing work, minimizing the atomic step density due to crystal curvature.
