Abstract

The concept of low-speed time-derivative preconditioning is implemented in a unique unstructured CFD code. This production code, known as Splitflow, uses a hybrid Cartesian-prismatic grid system to discretize complex three-dimensional geometries. Low-speed preconditioning allows this code to solve complex problems which include both compressible and incompressible flows such as a V/STOL aircraft in hover mode. The implementation is validated by computing the solutions of a low-speed lifting body and a subsonic jet-in-crossflow. The analysis of a complex V/STOL aircraft configuration in low-speed hover is also demonstrated using the three-dimensional Splitflow code.
