Abstract

This chapter discusses the development of air quality and public health policies within the context of contemporary societal needs and values. It further discusses the history of air pollution and how various cultures have developed public responses to respond to this issue over time. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the development of contemporary air quality policy related to mobile source emissions in the United States.
