Abstract
This paper presents the major findings from ASHRAE Research Project RP-1848, which documents the contributions made by ASHRAE and its members to advanced research, higher education, industry guidelines, and professional development. Such contributions are classified into five major categories: (1) building energy efficiency, (2) human health and comfort, (3) minimizing human impact on the environment, (4) industry and commerce, and (5) education and professional training. In each of these categories, facts and data were collected from multiple sources to assess ASHRAE's impact on different aspects of the industry, including government regulations; design, building, and testing guidelines in industry; academia and education; and influences on other professional societies or organizations.
