Abstract

An approach to determine the vertical shear that a well developed tropical cyclone can resist was discussed. Triply nested, moveable mesh, hydrostatic primitive equation TC model-TCM3 were used to examine the vertical shear. Vertical shear was introduced when the model TC reached a quasi steady equilibrium. For demonstrating the effect of the vortex radial structure on the behavior of TC like vortices in vertical shear, the same vertical shear was applied to the vortex that had a radially confined structure with maximum low level wind of 30m s -1. It was observed that a dry TC like vortex resisted moderate vertical shear with the development of a quasisteady tilt to the left of the shear vector.
