Abstract

The yields of known hafnium and lutetium isotopes with T 1 2 > 2 min produced in 40Ar + natW, 84Kr + natW, 136Xe + natW and 136Xe + 186W reactions were determined by combining chemical separation procedures with γ-ray spectroscopic measurements. The experimental mass distributions of neutron-deficient hafnium and lutetium isotopes are compared with the predictions of a simple theoretical model. Production of neutron-rich hafnium and lutetium isotopes in heavy-ion collisions is discussed.
