Graphical solution of coherent Raman systems using the Bloch sphere

Abstract

We present an analysis of coherent Raman systems (e.g. lambda and double lambda systems) based on a Bloch vector representation of the atomic state. The resulting vector equation suggests simple graphical solutions which provide significant intuition regarding the behavior of Raman systems.
