Abstract
A reanalysis of available data on gastrointestinal absorption of soluble barium indicates that absorption has been underestimated in most human studies. There appears to be little basis for assigning a substantially lower absorption fraction to soluble barium than to other alkaline earth elements, particularly radium, in radiation protection guidance.
