Abstract

The effect of the polarization drift on magnetic field evolution was studied using gyrokinetic theory. Three new phenomena were observed that have important implications on island dynamics. First, the emission of drift wave leads to a radiative torque on the island. Second, the island interacts resonantly with the drift wave it excites. Third, there exist two bands of frequency where the polarization drift is stabilizing.
