Abstract

The Fiducial Calibration System (FCS) is a technique that allows the calibration of a machine tool and/or workpiece to a metrology reference frame regardless of the machine errors, thermal environment, or fixturing errors. This methodology is applicable in a variety of manufacturing environments including low and high volume manufacturing. This paper outlines the Fiducial Calibration System and discusses some key issues including potential uses for the system, benefits, and optimization of the fiducial placement.
