Experimental study of bypass flow using PIV

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

This work presents the preliminary experimental results of a small scale facility to study the bypass flow in a prismatic core. Optical transparency in the test section was achieved by the use of MIR. The measurements were carried out using TRPIV to obtain the full field velocity vectors in the gap and coolant channels. The results show a velocity increase at the junction of the three hexagonal blocks and the identification of a vertical structure in the 5 mm gap. This work still under development and further experiments are being carried out in order to obtain the flow behavior in various gap sizes.
