Abstract
This paper presents a new type of vortex cooling device, called a vortex board, based on the theory of energy separation. An experimental vortex board was specially designed and experimental tests were conducted on it. Characteristics of this vortex board were tested under different operating conditions. On the basis of experimental results, the effect of inlet parameters and cold air ratios on various performance parameters were analyzed. Experimental results show the refrigeration effects of a vortex board were similar to those of a vortex tube. It is concluded that this device allows significant increases in refrigeration volume without affecting the refrigerating rate, offering a new concept for solving the dilemma between cooling capacity and efficiency in vortex tube cooling research, and a new way for large-scale production of vortex refrigeration.
