Abstract

Pilot plants are demonstrating the engineering feasibility of several coal liquefaction processes including Solvent Refined Coal (SRC), Exxon Donor Solvent (EDS), and H-Coal. Austenitic stainless steels necessary for general corrosion resistance may be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking in these environments. Candidate materials of construction were exposed at four coal liquefaction pilot plants. This paper summarizes on-site test results from June 1980 through September 1981.
