Abstract

A theoretical analysis of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effects in multilevel atomic systems was discussed. The two level atom EIT effects can be used for applications such as spatial soliton propagation, squeezed light generation by self phase modulation and in optical switching devices. The results show that electromagnetically induced transparency can be observed in the response of the two level atom and can lead to large self action effects and vanishing material absorption.
