Abstract
A report on the 4th International Congress on Ceramics (ICC4), held in Chicago, Illinois from July 15 to 19, 2012, is presented. An international Technical Program Committee aided by suggestions from an International Advisory Committee, created a rich program of plenary and invited presentations which addressed many critical issues and needs related to the use of ceramics and glass. Nearly 500 Congress participants had access to more than 100 lectures and 200 poster presentations from science, technology, and business leaders from around the globe. A novel Interactive Technology Forum was designed to enhance information exchange through the use of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). An account of the 2012 NSF Workshop on Emerging Research Areas in Ceramic Science was provided as an overview to complement the emerging opportunities identified in the Congress.
