Abstract

Photoemission measurements of the band structure of TiSe2 were carried out. An unconventional CDW transition from a very small gap semiconductor in the normal phase to another semiconductor with a larger gap in the CDW phase was observed. Analysis clarified the nature of the CDW transition as one involving a combination of electron-hole coupling and an indirect Jahn-Teller effect.
