Abstract

Contributions of the electron-electron and the nuclear-electron interactions to projectile electron loss in He+ on helium collisions have been clearly separated kinematically for the first time by measuring the longitudinal and transverse momenta of the recoiling target ion with precision of better than ±0.15 a.u. The longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions are in general agreement with two-center n-body classical trajectory Monte Carlo calculations.
