Abstract

This study investigates the influence of delamination and cutout on modal properties of a composite plate. Modal properties are evaluated by performing a three-dimensional finite analysis in ANSYS APDL 17.0. Singly and doubly curved composite plates having different sizes of delamination and cutout are considered. It is observed from this study that the presence of delamination and cutout may influence the modal properties of plates significantly. This influence on modal properties is however dependent on the size and locations of delamination and cutout within the plate. Further, it is found that the higher modes are more sensitive to delamination and cutout in composites.
