Abstract

TiC-Ni3Al composites are under development for application in diesel engines because of desirable physical and mechanical properties. High wear resistance of the composites is critical and smaller grains with less faceting are believed to be beneficial. The various additives can categorized into three basic types: strong carbide formers; moderate carbide formers; and additions that do not alloy with TiC.
