Abstract

The structure of edge radial electric field in DIII-D tokamak was investigated in quiescent H-mode. The effects of direct edge ion orbit loss on creation and sustainment of the QH-mode were described. The direct loss of ions which were injected into velocity-phase loss cone at plasma edge was not essential for creation and sustainment of QH-mode. The effect of change in edge traingularity by change in plasma shape from upwardly biased single null to magnetically balanced double null was also described.
