Abstract
A $5.5 million research program co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and 23 USA molten metal companies (steel, aluminum & metal casting) and their suppliers is developing the next generation of metallic and refractory materials for molten metals handling. Three rounds of testing are being conducted in the three-year program, including testing new pot hardware materials in industrial hot-dipping lines producing galvanized, Galvanneal, and Galvalume, and new refractory in aluminum and metal casting industries. The results of the industrial survey and failure analysis were reported along with the research activities leading to materials development.
