Abstract

We have designed and fabricated a compound refractive prism made of MgF2 single-crystal elements. The performance of this prism in refracting neutrons of wavelengths from 2 to 15 Å was determined by time-of-flight transmission measurements. The total refractive angle was established as being 2.8 mrad for 10-Å neutrons, and the transmission was 80%-98% for cold neutrons according to wavelength.
