Abstract

This paper describes the design of a sampling and measurement program (sponsored by the Electric Power Research Institute, RP3098-1) to characterize distribution power quality in the United States. The program involves placing 300 monitors on sites in 25 utilities over a 2 year period. Th data obtained will be used to: draw conclusions about expected levels of distribution system power quality in the United States. Identify critical environmental, construction, or design parameters that affect power quality. Develop better power quality modeling techniques that can evaluate candidate measures to improve power quality.
