Abstract

Previous study showed that some specific properties of the precipitates and its interaction with point defects are related to the precipitate-matrix interfaces (PMI). This paper emphasizes that PMI stabilizes the unstable bcc-Cu structure of coherent precipitates. Coherent Cu-precipitates are strong sinks for vacancies and they can store a high concentration of them. This high concentration together with a very fast diffusion create specific conditions that should contribute strongly to the phase transformation of the precipitate.
