Abstract

The physics of displacive and order-disorder dynamical behavior in ferroelectrics are briefly reviewed. It is shown how order-disorder dynamics are manifested in switching in a perovskite ferroelectric and how displacive and order-disorder dynamics can coexist in the dynamical response of LiNbO ₃, a ferroelectric material with a trigonal structure.
