Abstract
Photonic crystals (PCs) of a two-dimensional rectangular lattice were investigated by using the standard plane wave expansion method. The bandgaps of the crystal were also analyzed. It was found that the band structure of the rectangular lattice were different from those of an exact square lattice. It was also found that the rectangular lattice has complete 2-D bandgaps when the ratio of the two bases was chosen properly.
