Abstract
Collisional ionization of ground state Cs and K atoms by CH3CN has been investigated in a crossed-beam experiment for laboratory alkali kinetic energies from 26.5 to 90.7 eV (Cs) and 13.1 to 37.6 eV (K). The kinetic energies and angular distributions of product postive (Cs+ and K +) and negative (CN-) ions were measured. From these, estimates of the internal energy of the molecular fragments were made. No evidence for production of a stable CN3CN- ion through alkali collisions was obtained.
