Co-sinter bonding of complex WC-CO parts

Abstract

The manufacturing of complex WC-Co parts by assembly of pressable shapes followed by cosinter bonding has been demonstrated to produce components that cannot be pressed or injection molded. However, the design of these parts for assembly in the green state, and final tolerances after sintering are important for developing a continuous bond at the joined interfaces. This investigation uses a simple concentric ring around a cylindrical core to explore the effects of tolerance design and manufacturing variation on the bonding at the interface of these components.
