N2 - An overview is given of sessions prepared for the upcoming CEATEC conference in Japan. The sessions cover future technologies that will be introduced over the next five to ten years and beyond. The first session focuses on supercomputers and clusters and grids, informatics as a opportunity for microelectornics iunformation in the next decade, photonic integrated circuits for advanced applications based on asymmetric twin waveguide technology, and bits and atoms. The second session includes advanced sensor technologies, and the possibility of enhancing electronic systems with reconfigurable hardware. The final session addresses nonlinear multiphoton processes in the soft x-ray region, quantum optics and secure communications, progress in fiber lasers, and modern nonphotonics technologies.
