Abstract

The objective of the current joint research project between Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Clemson University is to understand the atomistic mechanisms of metal-assisted hydrogen storage in nanostructured carbons through multi-disciplinary and systematic approaches. An understanding of the effect of metal particles on the carbon structure of activated carbon fibers (ACF) is critical to determining the role of this metal doping on their hydrogen storage behaviors. Therefore, significant effort has been directed towards the characterization of ACF with and without metal doping by XRD, SEM, STEM and adsorption techniques. In this poster, recent results from these characterization approaches will be presented and discussed in correlation with their hydrogen storage behaviors.
