Abstract

The technologies needed for deposition of boron and boron-based coatings by the cathodic arc plasma generation technique have been developed over a period of several years. Achivements have included patented processes for synthesis of pure boron and boron carbide cathodes. Currently, further biocompatibility studies are underway for boron in comparison with alloys known to be biocompatible. General results for coating of Ti-6Al-4V alloy are now available.
