Abstract

Emergence of big data collection and analysis techniques offer unique opportunities for efficient urban planning. This chapter discusses big data in urban science and its challenges and opportunities in urban planning, with a special focus on the energy and mobility sectors. Through examples and case studies, we illustrate the present state of big data application and highlight how urban areas, especially those emerging with new growth, can utilize big data to efficiently meet energy and mobility challenges.
