Abstract

Rationale: The Program for Control of Asthma (ProAR) cohort of severe asthma was established in Salvador, Brazil from 2003. 1 From 2013, a case-control study was performed having a mild-to moderate asthma control group, that will be followed thereafter. The Unbiased Biomarkers for the Prediction of Respiratory Disease Outcome (U-BIOPRED) established a cohort of patients with asthma and healthy controls across 11 European countries. 2 A comparison of patients with severe asthma has previously been described, demonstrating similarities across the two cohorts. 3 The present study aimed to compare mild-to-moderate asthma patients between cohorts.
