Abstract

In this paper, an analytical model of surface mounted permanent magnet motor is presented. The presented model is capable of showing the impact of tolerances on the air gap field distribution. The air gap field can further be used to determine the flux linkage, induced back electromotive force, electromagnetic torque, and cogging torque. This model helps in an optimal initial motor design under various manufacturing tolerances. To prove the validity of the model, the results from this model are compared with those obtained from a finite-element analysis.
