Abstract

The first 1000kV ultra high voltage (UHV) AC transmission line, connecting Central China Grid (CCG) and North China Grid (NCG), is being constructed in China. It is necessary and important to analyze the stability of the system with the first 1000kV UHV AC line. Some new challenges and problems would be found and need a theoretical explain. In this paper, the new instable problems caused by the UHV interconnection of the regional power grids are summarized from a lot of stability simulations. The critical cut-set theory with the vulnerability index and stability margin index of the transmission sections is applied to analyze the problems effectively in this paper for the first time. The simulative results show that the UHV AC line is the critical cut-set of the large system. And the results are useful for stability assessment and control for large interconnected power system.
