Abstract

The pilot plant has produced coal-derived liquid and solid fuels since 1973. During the past four years engineers from Oak Ridge National Laboratory have worked with plant personnel to assess the performance of materials. One aspect has been failure analysis services. Corrosion mechanisms observed include sulfidation, chloride stress-corrosion cracking, polythionic acid stress-corrosion cracking, erosion, and chloride-related general corrosion.
