Abstract
A general solution for an aerostatic porous rectangular thrust bearing with an offset load is presented. When the pad thickness is small compared with the other two dimensions the pressure in the porous pad is obtained in closed form. The modified Reynolds equation is solved numerically using a finite difference method. The static load capacity, the mass rate of gas flow, the static stiffness and the distance of the centre of pressure are expressed in dimensionless parameters and calculated numerically. The variation of these characteristics with the feeding parameter for different supply pressures, pad shape ratios and attitudes is presented.
