Abstract

An introductory physics course entitled “Introduction to Physics and Biophysics” has been developed and implemented for life science students at Western Kentucky University. This paper describes the objectives of the course, presents a topical syllabus, and points out particular topics given special consideration. Pertinent student characteristics and comments concerning the course are also presented. As a result of the successful implementation of this course, a biophysics minor has been initiated and twelve students will graduate this year with a minor in biophysics. A laboratory is also being developed to accompany this lecture course.
