Abstract
Equipment wear is known to have significant adverse impacts on the operating cost and efficiency of coal preparation plants. In this paper, two advanced surface coating technologies, High-Density Infrared (HDI) and Laser Surface Engineering (LSE) coating processes, have been investigated to improve the wear resistance of metal surface of coal preparation equipment. The principles of the HDI and LSE processes are introduced and two types of coatings were prepared using these two techniques. The coated components were characterized by a range of processes including SEM, EDS, microhardness and wear tests. Laboratory wear test results have shown that the metal surface wear performance was improved by 6 to 26 times by the application of HDI and LSE surface enhancement techniques.
