Abstract

Micro-tubular SOFCs with rapid start-up and great thermal-shock resistance for portable applications are being developed at NanoDynamics Energy, Inc. In this paper, we present the single-cell that can provide over 10 W power, while being able to withstand very rapid temperature changes (up to 980°C/min). The cell power did not lag with fast heating rates and the single-cell exhibited a 1.3% power increase after 200 thermal cycles. Due to the excellent thermal-shock resistance, the cell can provide full power within two minutes of operation.
