Abstract

A comprehensive approach to building new distributed applications can facilitate the customization of new services, extension of applications, and the adaptation of both applications and services to variations in resource availability and demand. A middleware approach, called Active Streams and its associated framework for building distributed applications and services that exhibit these characteristics are proposed.
