Abstract

The current status of post-irradiation examinations (PIEs) of the ATF-1 test series is presented. Samples of UO2 including additives, namely SiC whiskers and diamond, and U3Si2 have been irradiated at ATR to low burnup. Both destructive and non-destructive PIE data has been collected for the various fuel systems. The results show a strong impact of the additives on the UO2 microstructure, penalizing the fuel microstructure stability. The nondestructive examination and the first metallographic data of U3Si2 fuel show good irradiation performance of the fuel, at least at low burnup. Further data collection on those samples will complete these results.
